March 23rd will mark a special event to benefit our editor Jed Gant's family whose young son, Oliver Gant, is entering his second year fighting a rare cancer. Grayson Currin of the Independent and Hopscotch has organized the benefit- a night where many of the Triangle's best bands (and beyond) come together to perform. Headlined by The Avett Brothers, the all star night is going to be an incredible gathering of musicians with shows at Kings, Tir Na Nog and The Pour House.  Proceeds will go to Oliver's family and the many organizations that work to support families in the same situation.  For someone like Jed Gant, a true local music lover, we can't imagine a more appropriate event for the public to show their support through.

Bands Include:

Annuals, The Avett Brothers, Birds of Avalon, Filthybird, Gross Ghost, Hammer No More the Fingers, Hooking Up, Ivan Rosebud & Jon Yu, Jack the Radio, Lonnie Walker, The Love Language, The Old Ceremony, Patty Hurst Shifter, Schooner, Spider Bags, Whatever Brains

smitty- I would say it is well worth it since this is a benefit for a kid with cancer. Or did you somehow miss that?

“$25 for 25 minutes” was also the title of smitty’s book, “My Life as a Peepshow Addict”.

I wonder if anybody will be at the other venues or will there be a bunch of angry hipsters smoking on Martin street.

There are great bands playing at all three venues that night but Kings does have the advantage of the Avett Bros playing.  Just like Hopscotch you will have to make some decisions and live with them and also accept that someone else is going to beat you to the one place you want to go first.  At that point get over yourself and go to one of the other two places and enjoy yourself.  And for those complaining or being snarky about a $25 ticket because you only want to see the Avetts, pull your head out of your ass and go see some other acts and realize this is FOR CHARITY!!!!
