Pinecone’s Down Home Concerts at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts kicks off their new season this Friday night with North Carolina’s own Grammy award winning Carolina Chocolate Drops.

Hitting the stage at 8 pm in Meymandi Concert Hall, the CCP are celebrating one of the most successful years of their careers. Their latest album, Leaving Eden, was released to widespread acclaim and has seen tremendous airplay on bluegrass radio. They were also asked to contribute a song to the best-selling soundtrack for The Hunger Games.
Will call will open at 7, with hall doors being opened at 7:30.

Shows rounding out the season for Pinecone’s Down Home Concert Series are:

  • The Gathering: A Holiday Concert featuring Rhiannon Giddens, Laurelyn Dossett, Mike Compton, Joe Newberry, and Jason Sypher; Saturday, December 15th 2012, 8pm
  • Chatham County Line, Friday, February 15th 2013, 8pm
  • The Gibson Brothers, Friday, March 1st 2013, 8pm
  • The Del McCoury Band, Thursday, April 4th 2013, 8pm
