The City of Raleigh has been upping their green initiative over the years by adding Electric Vehicle charging stations around downtown, building a LEED Silver Convention Center, rolling out hybrid circulator buses and more sustainable buidlings, greenways and more in the downtown area.

City Council Member Bonner Gaylord has pointed us to a Google walking map created by the City of Raleigh staff which highlights each of these initiatives in the downtown grid. So, put on your walking shoes and head down to the Raleigh Convention Center for a sustainable tour of the capitol city on foot. I'm sure more locations will be added over time, so save the map to your places and keep checking back.

You can see the map and add it to your Google Places here or check it out below.

This self-guided 2 mile walking tour of downtown Raleigh spotlights aspects of the three spheres of sustainability: Economic Strength, Environmental Stewardship and Social Equity.
Sustainability concepts include: protecting the natural environment; employing local materials and local labor; public/private partnerships; re-used and re-purposed buildings; economic development; equal access to economy, goods and service, health and nutrition; social inclusion; integration of education, use and maintenance of greenways and open spaces; water conservation; energy efficiency and renewable energy (such as solar).
