Wouter "Wally" De Backer, aka Gotye. You know him. He's all over the airwaves and grocery store musak channels over the past few months. He hit SNL recently and the youth culture of America are obsessed with his music. I've still yet to wrap my head around why his tunes are so popular (remember Keane?), but surely enough, they are.

That said, Mr. Backer will float into Raleigh's Downtown Amphitheatre on October 12th with Missy Higgins & Jonti and all the young girls will come screaming. Gotye's 2011 album, Making Mirrors, has peaked at number one on multiple international charts over the past year.

While digging through Backer's bio, I realized we were born on the same day of the same year as the singer. Reconsidering reality right about now. Maybe we are the same person or he's simply someone that I used to know?

Tickets go on sale next Friday June 8th and prices start at $40 and go as high as $70 with fees. Ridiculous for an artist with one big hit. At least the art direction in his videos is quite nice.

To be honest, this makes me sad. Perhaps this sounds super hipster, but I have loved Gotye since 2006 or 2007 when he released the video for “Hearts A Mess” off of his Like Drawing Blood album. I had to have the album imported. I always hoped he would tour the US in smaller clubs like the Cradle. Now he is finally here and I will have to spend way too much money to sit with hordes of G105 fans. Perhaps I should just be thankful that I can see a personal favorite less than a mile from my home and choose to focus on the music. Maybe I will when the time comes. For now though I’m just a bit over it. But hey, I spent too much money ordering his album from Australia the first time…maybe it’s tradition to spend too much money on his music for me anyway.

I didn’t know how to use the internet in 2006 and now Gotye has fans wah!

@ Roo when I discovered Gotye on NPR All Songs Considered I thought I hit a gold mine then I heard him on glee and other popular outlets.  If I put myself in his shoes though - blowing up big time is the musician’s ultimate dream right?  Besides, you have to admit - it’s the best show that’s been announced for the venue this year thus far?
