Tatsuya Nakatani is a contemporary percussionist. Originally from Osaka, Japan, Nakatani travels the world performing his unsettling but fascinating music. He utilizes drums, bowed gongs, cymbals, singing bowls, metal objects, bells, and various sticks and bows. These objects create an intense experience for the ears and transport the art of percussion to the outer realm. Over the past decade, he has released dozens and dozens of recorded performances.
His passion for percussion has lead Nakatani to create his own kind of percussive instrumentation, resulting in new instruments and new techniques for performing his improvised and experimental music. Styles such as jazz, rock, and noise benefit from the art of improvisation. Nakatani draws from these styles while echoing the beauty of traditional Japanese folk music in his performances.

The evening will feature collaborations with Craig Hilton, Dave Menestres, Carrie Shull, Christopher Thurston, and Crowmeat Bob - a group of talented musicians (some who hail from Raleigh) who thrive in the improvisational setting.
The show begins at 9pm. The show is free, but donations are encouraged. Kings is located at 14 W. Martin Street. More information on the show can be found on Kings website.
