Something we've been pushing for a long time is for Downtown Raleigh to expand outside of the restaurant and bar entertainment island that it has become. We need retail. But it's the chicken and egg situation of more foot traffic first or the retail shops (or grocery store) first? Raleigh is growing in both elements at the same time. It seems like there's more daily foot traffic in Downtown Raleigh as well as more than just bars popping up.
A few months ago we got Cimos, a quirky shop on Hargett and now we have a few retail businesses opening on Wilmingon. Luckily, downtown has been a breeding ground for one-off local/small businesses and each of the new additions are exactly that.

The first is Moon and Lola, a jewelry company based in Apex, NC that will take over half of the old Brass Grill spot. Taking over the other half of the Brass Grill spot will be Feelgoodz, which we will post more about over the weekend. From what we know, this will be the first Moon and Lola storefont. They currently sell their jewelry in lots of shops across the country. This will be a great retail corner with Holly Aiken's Stitch holding down the corner.
Moon and Lola is a jewelry design house that makes quality jewelry that strives to set trends not just follow them! Moon and Lola is all about now!
You can check out Moon and Lola on Twitter, Facebook or their website.

I miss the Brass Grill.
this is awesome. can’t wait for this to open up.
Poor Brass Grill - they really got screwed in this process…miss them :(
I’m super excited about this!! I’ve had my eye on one of those gold monogrammed necklaces for a long tim!
Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that either of these businesses will survive a year. A “flip flop” retailer…? Really? And what do either of these businesses really add to downtown? Do they provide useful, functional goods or services? Do they provide jobs? I’d rather see a story about the huge Taz’s across the street that is a viable business, sells things that people actually need, employs people, and generates tax revenue.
