Next month, New Raleigh will celebrate its first big milestone, five years in publication. In 2007, when New Raleigh started, hyper-local city blogs were all just getting off of the ground in cities across the country. Only a few existed in the Raleigh area before New Raleigh, Goodnight, Raleigh!, The Raleigh Connoisseur, RaleighDLA and a few others that have been started in the past few years; namely one, Raleighing. In 2007, The Independent Weekly didn't have a category for Best Local Blog and it would take until 2010 for that category to be created (we finished as a Finalist that year). Bull City Rising has won the past two years but they, unfortunately, called it quits in late 2011.
So, we are honored to see that our readers have voted us the best Local Blog in the Triangle for the first time. After five years of trying to identify what's hip and progressive about one of North Carolina's and the country's fastest growing cities, it's great that our readers enjoy the site enough to vote for it without our marketing for the nomination. Thank you very much for all of the support and congrats to all of the finalists as well. We look forward to serving our readers and city for more years to come. Thanks for reading.
