Each year, the Downtown Raleigh Amphitheater has upped their caliber of musician that plays the venue. After a first year of hit or miss musicians, last year's calendar was full of big acts that brought huge crowds downtown. From Wilco, to Fleet Foxes, to Bon Iver, Mumford and Sons and The Decemberists, but not the Flaming Lips.
The first big act of the Amphitheater's third season has been announced and it is The Beach Boys, stopping in on their 50th anniversary tour. This announcement comes just a few days after The Beach Boys reunited on the Grammy stage on Sunday night.
I had the pleasure to see Brian Wilson back in 2004 at Royal Albert Hall in London and it was easily one of the top 5 concerts I've ever experienced. Considering all of the turmoil between the boys over the past few decades, this tour could be an interesting collaboration of their personalities. This tour also comes at a very timely point where many of the independent bands of the past 5 years have stated The Beach Boys as one of their top influences, which should make the show a multi-generation fest (although the younger fans may not be able to afford tickets!?). The show will sell out fast and be a great start to the Summer Concert Series in Downtown Raleigh.
The Beach Boys will come to Downtown Raleigh on Sunday, April 29th (same night as Bear in Heaven and Blouse at Kings Barcade. Beach Boys afterparty!). No word on ticket sales yet.

finally!..... a band that Boomers can enjoy at Raleigh amphitheatre…
how about a few more “pre-1990’s bands” sprinkled in the annual lineup to get more old timers out?
How is there only 1 comment? This is great news…but, for me: ONLY if Brian Wilson is involved. That wasn’t really cleared up in the article. If so, then, hell yeah!
