Need a new bike? Wanna go for a bike ride around downtown or simply help someone else build a bike to their liking? If so, 1304bikes is your source of information. 1304bikes exists as part of the ACRe in Oberlin Village and have been doing non-profit community work in Raleigh for years. While Raleigh is developing a bicycle plan with funding from the NC Department of Transportation and hosting a Public Workshop, 1304 has a spring and summer full of fun community oriented events, local rides, and LOCO POPS!

Hey all, it’s been awhile since we’ve sent out an email, but since we’ve put the calender on our website, we haven’t felt the need to email every time the shop was open. For those who haven’t been around in a while, the shop is now open on Thursday nights from 6-9pm in addition to the normal Sunday 1-5. Anyway, theres a lot of stuff going down in the next coming month, and it should be pretty exciting.
Friday, March 28th
Raleigh Critical Mass and LOCO POPS!. Moshe and I (well mainly me, but Moshe was nice enough to not lot me ride alone) decided to try and revive Raleigh’s Critical Mass. It seems a lot of people have been asking about it, so I figured we’d give it a go. Meet at the NCSU Belltower at 5pm, and we’ll try to leave around 5:30pm. We’ll ride about 5 miles around downtown, and then head back up Hillsborough to Finish at the new Raleigh LOCO POPS which is basically right across from the bell tower. What could be better than riding bikes and eating popsicles? So come on out, it’ll be fun. (Also, does anyone know if the Raleigh CM email list is still in existence?)
Wednesday, April 2nd
Public Workshop for the Bicycle Transportation Plan. 4-7pm @ Glen Eden Pilot Neighborhood Center, 1500 Glen Eden Dr. “This is a great opportunity to learn about the main components of the Bicycle Transportation Plan and to provide input on how to improve bicycling conditions in Raleigh. Drop in anytime between 4 PM and 7 PM to talk with Steering Committee members, City staff, and project consultants.“
Friday, April 4th
Bike First Friday Raleigh. Meet at the NCSU Belltower at 7pm, and ride around and check out all the art galleries. These rides are a lot of fun and usually have a pretty good turnout.
Sunday, April 6th
The 1304bikes shop will be closed for an event we are doing with Big Brother Big Sister. If you have good bike mechanic skills and would like to help out with this event, send us an email.
Tuesday, April 22nd: 9am-2pm
Earth Day Event at Cisco. 1304bikes will be tableing as well as collecting used bikes from Cisco employees for their Earth Day E-waste program. So far I’m the only one committed to this, so If anyone wants to join me that would be rad; even more rad if you have a truck. I’ll be taking my truck, but if we get swamped with bike donations, it will be nice to have another truck and person or two.
Friday, April 25th: 10am-2pm
Earth Day at NCSU Brickyard. 1304bikes will be tabling again this year. Stop by and say hello or come check out ladies in bedazzled white denim jean jackets selling organic, free range, shade grown cleaning products. Maybe even Staples will be there again this year…giving away paper…to save the earth…? It should be awesome.
Saturday, April 26th: 1-4pm
NCCASA Fundraiser Bike Ride & Consent Workshop @ ACRe (home of 1304bikes). This event is to raise awareness about sexual violence and to raise funds for the North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual Assault, which works to end sexual violence across North Carolina. NCCASA is a statewide alliance working to end sexual violence through education, advocacy, and legislation. We provide training, advocacy, and support to 75 rape crisis centers, numerous colleges and universities, law enforcement, medical personnel, and many other allied professionals. The 3 people who raise the most funds will get an awesome prize! If you can’t ride, sponser a rider. All donations are tax deductible. And join us for a workshop and discussion on consent!
