2009 NC State Fair Theme - A Whole Lotta Happy

Over at the Deep Fried @ the NC State Fair blog (we Southerners sure know how to name our blogs), it was announced yesterday that the 2009 NC State Fair theme will be "A Whole Lotta Happy". Take a read at the following statement from the Fair Crew and then watch the steel drum scored and lofi home video (which looks to have been done on a Flip video camera, if this is so, props indeed on saving the production cash). I'm still not sure what to think after watching it a few times, but I'm mostly thinking Deep Fried Cheese. The fair will take place at the State Fairgrounds this year from October 15-25. For more, read the blog or check out the fair's website.

I’m not exactly sure how this one came up in our brainstorming session, but it has brought smiles to our faces for the last four months and we are happy to announce it. We think it encapsulates the Fair. There’s always “A Whole Lotta Happy” on the fairgrounds during the Fair…from kids grinning ear-to-ear over a stuffed animal that they won, parents laughing on a mini roller coaster with their kids or a youth grinning over winning a blue ribbon in a livestock competition. Not to mention the happiness that comes over a grown-man’s face when he walks up to order an onion blossom or sausage dog. Or a kid’s grin eating a sticky, but sweet, candy apple. Yes, we see “a whole lotta happy” each and every day at the Fair. And yes, we already know the alternatives some pundits may throw out there. But that’s not gonna wipe the smiles from our faces whenever we think of the theme and the happiness that the Fair brings to so many people.

that is a great poster design; I wonder who did it. looks like the kind of stuff Yee-Haw Industries puts out.

maybe next year they’ll just go ahead and call it “Good Times.”

You’re good—it was indeed filmed with a Flip Mino. It isn’t the best quality in the world, but we thought it got the message across pretty well.

The poster was designed in-house by Amanda Meares, one of our very talented graphic designers at the Department of Ag. She’s working on the new Fair Web site right now as well, which will be similar to the poster and up around the beginning of June.

    That video is embarrassing!

Anything with the word state in it can’t be cool.

I love the poster, and last year at the Fair was a “whole lotta happy” for me and my gang.  I like the emphasis on the traditional aspects of the Fair, like the canning jar with the prize ribbon.  That, to me, is what it’s all about.

And yes, our state can be pretty cool.

So, I guess if you’re not a fan of country music, then you will not be attending any of the shows at the State Fair.  Thanks for saving me the cash.

Ali - if you’re talking about the shows at Dorton, pretty much half the acts are clearly not country. But your point is well taken. I don’t recommend that anyone go to the NC State Fair for the live music.
