The International Buddhist Progress Society of NC and Buddha’s Light International Association of NC are hosting the 33 Manifestations of Compassion exhibition at Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple in Raleigh on Sunday, March 15th, 2009, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. The free exhibit will run through April 18th except for Mondays. Details about the opening ceremony and Guan Yin below.

Avalokitesvara is the Sanskrit name for the Bodhisattva of Compassion, known as ‘Guan Yin” in Chinese. A Bodhisattva is an enlightened being who delays entering nirvana in order to liberate others in this world first. Guan Yin, also referred to as the Goddess of Mercy, is said to possess the ability to transform into various forms to help those in need. The exhibit consists of 33 beautifully sculptured manifestations of Compassion. These Guan Yin statues shall bring individuals a sense of tranquility and compassion. One can appreciate Guan Yin’s great cultivation in practicing the Buddhahood by taking the ten vows, which one will see in detail during the Great Compassion Repentance Ceremony.
The Exhibition Opening date is March 15th, which is Guan Yin’s birthday! To celebrate it, we will start with the “Great Compassion Repentance Service” to be performed in English at 10 a.m., followed by a vegetarian lunch at 12:00 p.m. “The Exhibition Opening Ceremony” will start at 1:30 p.m.
This event is free and open to the public. This exhibit is on loan and is the first time the collection has ever been displayed on the east coast. Bring your friends and family to this special event and celebrate with us! May Buddha bless you all!
