Over 40 Award Winning Cakes From The State Fair

Sunday marked the end of the fair, but we had one last tidbit to share with our readers.  One of the free exhibits, the cake competition always had a healthy crowd viewing them. Organized and judged by Vivian Hammon, this exhibit was the highlight of my visit to the fair.

there were some epic ones out this year. too bad you didnt get a close up of the gorgeous red double happiness asian influence cake in the bottom right corner. that was my fave.

also, i didnt get to closely inspect the Ace of Cakes cake… was that an homage or did duff happen to come to NC and submit a cake? smile

What happens to the cakes after the fair?

I’m not sure I understand this fad.  Are these really ‘cakes’?  Who would eat one?  Fondant tastes like crap.

Most of the cakes are picked back up by their owners…right now they are still about six cakes sitting in the Fair offices that’ll probably be tossed at the end of the week.

I’d agree with Smitty on these leftover cakes…stale icing, not so yummy. But they’re still pretty!

    David, love the pics.
