ACRe Hosts New Year’s Eve Party

Bored with First Night and the standard new year’s bar scene? If you are looking for an unorthodox new year’s eve, check out the party hosted by the local non-profit group ACRe, Action for Community in Raleigh. Donations from the event will help cover the court costs and legal fees of the Everglades Earth First! activists that were arrested this past February for resisting the power plant expansion of Florida Power and Light. The evening’s schedule of events, which begin at 7, reflect the progressive meme of the hosts:

*bonfire
*tripod climbing
*date auction
*fire-breathing/fire tricks
*food (some free, some not; also there will be vegan options)
*silent auction/raffle (rare punk records and comics, bike parts, home-cooked meals, massages, etc.)
*mini bike race
*live music (ElfOwl + more TBA)
*bike frame/rim toss
*Pin the Beard on the Anarchist
*spin-the-bottle (if folks feel like it!)
*bike jousting
*condom-tossing
*prizes!

ACRe is located at 2419 Mayview Rd. on the corner of Chamberlain St. near Cameron Village. The space is home to the Mayview Housing Collective, 1304 Bikes, and Food Not Bombs, so go ahead and make a resolution to be involved with your community in the forthcoming year.

Is this event alcohol free?  If it is, this is very relevant info for this article.

I believe the first floor of the house will be an alcohol free area.

There will be a no-drinking space in the public/ community area downstairs. Otherwise alcohol is allowed, just be respectful and safe. Use common sense and as always, do not drink & drive.
