It’s been over three years since the launch of the competition to build a new AIA-NC Headquarters in Downtown Raleigh and it looks like construction is finally starting. Frank Harmon Architects won the competition and Triangle Business Journal is reporting that a construction loan has been secured and the contractor, Clancy and Theys, will start prepping the site (the triangular site at the corner of Salisbury and Peace Streets) for construction this week.
With the Contemporary Art Museum set to debut in Downtown Raleigh’s Warehouse District next year and the AIA-NC Headquarters going up on the other side of the city, Raleigh is starting to expand its boundaries art and architecture boundaries beyond the central grid. Both structures should add more character and activity to their new neighborhoods.
Here’s the marketing video put out by the AIA-NC a few years ago.

Where is this new AIA-NC building located?
Wilmington + Peace St. near Seaboard Station I believe. Glad to see it still moving forward.
^^ It’ll be directly across East Peace Street from the Peace College main entrance.
Peace college will have a lovely view of a 4 story wall of metal. Hopefully it doesn’t cause a “death ray” like the Hotel Vdara in Las Vegas.
Not nearly as cool as the Sunsphere they have in Knoxville.
Way better looking than that hideous white prison-like building behind.
