Alfred Williams, which opened its original showroom on Fayetteville Street in the last 1800s, will return to Downtown Raleigh with a new space on South Salisbury Street. Alfred Williams specializes in high-end office furniture but also offers a nice selection of modern home furniture, including Noguchi tables, Eames Chairs and more. The company has hired Vernacular Studio (local architects) to design the new showroom which is located only a block from the Raleigh Convention Center (a great move on the company's part).
The N&O reports that the mostly concrete building (below) will be gutted and the exterior will be made into more glass. Finally some more great retail for Downtown Raleigh, even if it's high-end and bulk order furniture. Maybe this will lead a 2011 influx of retail? We can only hope.

Vernacular Studio Alfred Williams
That building looks like a bunker, it will certainly be an improvement to have some glass added, and something visible going on inside.
