Answer Phones for WUNC

I’m sure most folks that listen to WUNC daily in Raleigh love this time of year.  It is time for WUNC’s annual Fall Fund Drive.  It starts tomorrow and WUNC needs your help answering phones.  This year will be my fifth time answering phones and it has been well worth the trip to Chapel Hill each time. You should try it, it’s a great way to give back to a great public source of daily information.

Although WUNC does have its main studio in Chapel Hill and a second studio at the American Tobacco Historic District in Durham, it readily serves the Raleigh area with great news and information daily.  I wonder if we could lobby for a Raleigh studio? 

The volunteer sessions are very interactive with WUNC’s staff and you are able to mingle and chat with such radio personalities as Laura Leslie, Rusty Jacobs, and various managers of the station.  It is a good way to put faces with voices.  The staff make it fun for the volunteers during their time at the radio station with drawings for prizes and yummy food, catered by various local restaurants (They even had Vin one year). 

So head to Chapel Hill and answer phones for a couple of hours, you’ll get a laugh from some of the calls you will get from various listeners and be surprised at the distance folks call from to support your local NPR station.
