Since when did New Raleigh become a tech blog? Lately it’s bus tracking this and bus tracking that. And now, we get the first glimpse of Apple’s seemingly quixotic data center- a massive 500,000 square foot building in Maiden NC. Companies don’t usually announce IT changes to the public, but there is lots of speculation as to what might be going into this thing. Right now Apple’s only data center is a fifth of this size. The Maiden facility represents a $1 billion dollar investment by Apple.

I wonder if some of the local residents will get high(er) speed broadband because of this?
I say this because Maiden is tiny and I doubt they had any infrastructure at all to support a datacenter even 10 times smaller than this.
And I wonder it Apple has some sort of “pipe” from Maiden to Charlotte to make this all work.
It would be interesting to know more detail and to watch the area around this datacenter grow.
Somebody should call a landscaper.
geez, too bad it’s no where near raleigh. I got rather excited when i saw the title because i was thinking NEW JOB! they probably saved an insane amount of money moving into the unheard of maiden area.
The RTP area should of pitched harder for this one! Oh well!
thrilling footage. IBM had a grand opening for a data center much closer to the nu raleigh headquarters about a month ago.

For me, it’s the simplicity and easiness of Apple’s products that I find attractive (and addictive). However I do own an XBOX 360 which is made by Microsoft. Apple has the tendency to screw over people, like $1.29 songs depending on ‘who’s more popular’, that waste of money iPad, outrageous prices, and exclusivity of the iPhone. But they make damn good computers and music listening devices.
