This is crazy cool. Can’t believe they’re playing a free show. Too bad it’s on a Friday afternoon. I must find a way to cover this so that I can go.

I would bet that the Greensboro show will be less crowded and easier to navigate through than Carrboro.  Also, if you plan on going to Carrboro, make some plans to chill afterwards, because traffic on Friday is bad heading back to Raleigh/People trying to get to the beach and I don’t want ya’ll to be a victim of it, as I am a victim of it on a daily basis.

    Can we?

    4-24-07 – Chapel Hill, NC

If Obama’s administration runs anything like today’s Arcade Fire ticket giveaway in Chapel Hill, we may all need to reconsider our vote. The ticket giveaway was scheduled to begin at 8am at the UNC Planetarium. The Obama website confirmed this, as well as the Merge Records website and numerous media sites. I showed up there at 7:40am to be safe. There were probably one hundred people there at that point. The Obama volunteers did not show up at 8am, however, they showed up just after 9am. By that time there were several hundred people in line, many of whom were missing work and school obligations and expected an 8am distribution. Everyone around me was frustrated and trying to decide what to do. The volunteers had two clipboards and you were required to fill out a form before you could get the tickets. I was there for TWO HOURS before I received the “free” tickets. I hasten to call them tickets. They are photocopied on red cardstock and will be easily copied, so expect as many people as want to in attendance next week. I’m betting ten thousand or so. I was late for work, my daughter late for school, not to mention the $15 parking ticket I received when my meter expired. I had 1:30 on the meter, and never would have imagined it would take two hours. This was supposed to be an inspirational rally for Obama, not a pain in the rump. Obama, you have to do better than this.

    J,

    Sorry to hear that.

The Morning Times in Raleigh was as simple as can be.  Your point about the tickets being easily replicated is completely true but not the best thing to broadcast on a public blog.

While your experience was unfortunate, it is quite the stretch to correlate the shortcomings of the volunteers in Chapel Hill with the candidate himself. On the other hand, Raleigh volunteers were organized and it took about 10 minutes to get tickets this morning.
