The alt-band of the year from London, The XX, will grace Local 506 with its presence on Monday November 16th. The band went racing up the hip ladder after Pitchfork slapped their debut with an 8.7 out of 10 and a Best New Music tag. The blogs went crazy and the band went from playing shows of 10 people to selling out much larger venues. Drum machines, a bit of guitar, and a tiny piano got these guys Beatles-esque numbers! Oh, the power of the fork.
Falling somewhere between R&B (they covered Aaliyah before their “fame”) and electronic shoe gaze, The XX are now the definition of “cool” to some and the epitome of “hipsterdom” to others. Polar pushers. Are they too cool for you? Is that snow jacket, one earring, 80s look “like so dated yo”? Check out the hypemachines on November 16th and make up your own mind.
Then again, maybe The XX is indeed all a big marketing ploy for Dos Equis.

Meh. Supremely meh.
One.
Please never put the words, Raleigh and Hipsters in the same title sentence.
Two.
Pitchfork ? That is our litmus test ? Sad days.
Three.
Covering Aaliyah gives you no R&B leanings.
Aaliyah is to R&B as Carrie Underwood is to country.
Down to three members now and they’ve already cancelled a handful of shows due to exhaustion. 10-1 they don’t make it here.
rather be a hipster than a hater!
