Similar to Wilco, one of the last times the Avett Brothers were in the Triangle was at the North Carolina Museum of Art. Both them and Tweedy sold out the venue very quickly. Concord natives, the Avett Brothers has slowly impressed their entire country, selling out shows from one coast to the other. A show at Koka Booth this summer has been rumored for a while and the date has been released.
You won’t find it on any schedule yet but The Avetts will play Koka Booth on Saturday, July 26. The word I received earlier in the year is that this show will be similar to the big festival they had a couple of years ago in Charlotte with theeverybodyfields and Langhorne Slim. They will more than likely pull in large acts for this show and tickets will fly out the door. Keep your eyes on this space for ticket information and supporting bands. Rumors suggest that it is Regina Spektor, who recently sold out a show on Duke’s campus. Considering she is the first musician friend on their myspace account and they are known to be good friends, this could be true. What about Valient Thorr? (who are also high on their myspace list and well known in the Triangle area) That would be an amazing combination on stage, almost Temple of the Dog-esque. Cary might not know what hit them.
This from their latest email “We play the Watson Stage on Friday at 10:15 and make sure to listen closely; we’ll have two very big announcements from the stage. We will also be in the signing booth directly after our performance, so please stop by and say hi!”
