It looks like Glenwood South is getting ANOTHER pizza joint. This one will be called Bada Bing! Pizzeria and will be located in the space previously occupied by the very short lived European Espresso and Wine Cafe. Bada Bing will be focused on the stumbling late night crowd on Glenwood South and will have a walk up window. Sounds like Sauced Pizza will get a run for it’s money in the late night pizza business.
This means that there will be 5 pizza places between Five Points (Lilly’s) and Moonlight Pizza just off the south end of Glenwood South. Can we say saturation level?

Pizza. Food of the common man.
if it’s even kind-of good it will top the pizza i got when i tried sauced out the other day…
What is this, Hillsborough Street?
Yikes! I welcome late night food places, but if the pizza fad continues, Glenwood will resemble Hillsborough St before too long.
How about falafels or some other street food? Or is the area not capable of Middle Eastern street food?
Pizza—the opiate of the masses. Oh, and I can say it too—“saturation level”.
While I do agree with you that it will make things a bit more challenging for Sauced (given the similar focus on the late night crowd and pizza by the slice focus in the same district) in the same way that it didn’t take a genius to figure out that Brueggers and Dunkin would make serious trouble for each other, I don’t believe that five pizza places over that distance is neccessarily oversaturated. Neither Lilly’s nor Moonlight are in Glenwood South (and they have a different focus) and Mellow Mushroom is also a different kinda place, and not a by the slice type joint either…
Will someone PLEASE open an Indian restaurant downtown?
Sounds like the name of a strip joint….
May be Glenwood South needs a Waffle House which is open 24/7 I say this partly with tongue in cheek.
Remember that the Mellow Mushroom on Peace Street was a Western Sizzler complete with buffet.
My record at the Sizzler was 7 plates of food in one sitting. I could barely walk out. But do you remember the Steel Porcupine?
I think the original article at the Raleigh Telegram has it incorrect—I don’t see how this new pizza place can make it just off of the late night crowd. Tobacco Road sells food late as well. That’s one reason why the Dunkin’ Donuts shut down as they just weren’t making it on $1 donuts or in this case, cheap slices of pizza.
Yeah, but where can we see douchy college kids puke pizza onto the sidewalk?
That said, we need pizza by the slice open late night closer to downtown.
This is an entertainment district, and that is very entertaining.
Pizza pizza everywhere but not a Neapolitan style pizza to be found! Why or why can’t someone open one of these in the triangle. It’s like a totally different breed of pizza and so innovative and fresh and delish. Every major city has one. What I don’t need is another “not as good as Lily’s” style pizzeria. Come on.
This is fine with me, really. It’s serving a different segment of the pizza market in a way. Let them battle Sauced if they choose. It shouldn’t really affect the other three. Mellow Mushroom is fun, Moonlight is friendly (and my favorite), Lilly’s is, um, Lilly’s. None of those would be where I’d stop to choke down some late night pizza.
Okay I love this analogy game. Hillsborough St. = Glenwood South…thus…Lily’s = Sadlacks. Moonlight = Rathskellar. Mellow Mushroom = East Village. Sauced = Red Hot & Blue. BaDaBong = maybe Loco Pops. (And for good old times sake, the old Pizza Hut (now Starbucks) = PR.) Please help me refine this Raleigh pizza lovers.
hahaha, funny WiseOne but a real late night menue would be so much better than pizza.
It is good to see. . . you reap what you sow (what you do comes back to you). Sauced Pizza NC, completely stole an entire marketing plan and food concept from a thriving spot; ironically called SAUCED, located in OKC. From the logo’s and the menu, to the “Get SAUCED” slogan, it all has been used by another pizza place for almost four years now. I have watched all of this unfold, being the Creative Director of the Real SAUCED in OKC and it is very possible that a Legal Case may be made out of the theft of Intellectual Property in this issue. It is just sick to see this type of theft and someone successfully getting away with it. Downtown Raleigh, NC should feel ripped off itself.
It is nice to see someone give them a run for their money. I wish Bada Bing success. Thieves should get challenged. This is what happens in court, a challenge to see documentation.
For the readers to see what I am talking about, first notice the disclaimer on the bottom of the Sauced NC webpage, at the way bottom in grey. This went up after we fired some warning shots (in the form of nice letters and requests asking them to alter their name and or concept somewhat long before they opened, NO return letters were ever sent), and then take a look at http://www.yoursauced.com the myspace attached to it or the 300 pages of blogging that go with it. Now take a look at the logo on this page http://www.foxrestaurantconcepts.com/sauce/
Does the logo look familiar. Cheaters always loose in the end. . . . Bada Boom Bada Bing good luck! I hope you take em to the cleaners. Hurry up before we do it ourselves.
To not make this sound like we are just angry at someone doing well.We understand gentrification and the building of a thriving business district inan area thta may not have been so pleasant just a few years back. We have been through it all. We work closely with many community groups to keep our neighborhood thriving and the commercial district free of problems and undesirables. We have had famous chefs (TV chefs) call us and ask to use our name in other cities. We have offered permission with limitations and have built relationships with people who want the name but not the concept. I think that the reason why we get no reply from Sauced pizza NC is because they know they are completely against a wall in a poor legal position due solely to the fact that we are talking about Interstate commerce issues of Intelectual Property. 10 or 20 years ago there was no rules about these type of things. Now there are all kinds of laws that effect this issue due to the thriving use of the internet. When someone googled SAUCED, Get SAUCED or SAUCED pizza 3 years ago SAUCED OKC came up first and stood all alone. Now it has changed due to unfair, immoral and unethical business practices. We have been on Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, and blogging for much longer than the establishment in OKC has been open. What did the owners do? Did they scour the internet for a place with a great concept and huge internet presence to steal from. If I was in Raleigh, NC or apart of this media group I would start asking questions about why your trustworthy local restaurant owners cant be honest about something simple. It is true that burger shops and pizza places exist side by side all over the world and dried shrimp places are by the dozens in the far east but why steal a complete concept, logo, slogan and nearly 90% of a menu. I would question the honesty and integrity of this business group overall. What other scams are they selling you?
Pizzas have sauce on them. Drinking a lot is referred to as getting “sauced.” For a pizza place that serves alcohol, it doesn’t take a Shakesperean level of creativity to come up with a name referencing “sauce.” Do you think that people googling your business will change their mind and drive from Oklahoma to Raleigh instead?
“What other scams are they selling you?”... So long as it’s scams with cheese and pepperoni, I’m not that concerned. What Glenwood South really needs is a real Coney Island for late night chow. I like Snoopy’s chili dogs, but they just don’t measure to a real coney dog served by a mean-spirited crusty old hag at 4am.
Joey, While purposely not divulging my opinion on the matter you discuss, I must say that my legal background says that you divulge too much information here if a possible lawsuit is pending. Because of this, the business operators side of me would appreciate your passion for the business but terminate you immediately.
I don’t see similarities at all! In fact, the only similarity is that both businesses have equally amateurish websites, with NC winning out by a D.
Im more likely to sue Sauced for gaining 20 pounds from their awesomeness. The music in there is douche-deluxe, but who cares? $1 slices on Monday!
Deliciousness in Raleigh, here I come! NOM NOM NOM!!
To be honest, I think that copyrights and so forth are a matter for the owners and courts. As a customer, I really only care about the food and service. It seems that half the Thai restaurants in America are called “Thaiphoon” and that hasn’t bothered me yet.
Hey Joey—it’s not cheating…because it’s not a game. Selling pizza is to make money not to win something. (I wish someone would steal/cheat and bring Raleigh a better music venue that can substain.) And if you considered yourself any bit creative you must know that you can’t get trapped in “i did it before you, but your more famous than me” abyss…you know the saying ‘all writing is rewriting”
Hey Arthur Downtown…you’re absolutely right. Why pizza late night. There was a place on Hillsborough Street called the Breakfast House that was 24/7 and obviously served breakfast food…so late night, so diner and actually so good. I would pan the pizza for this post 2am any night.
^ WiseOne, I would be shocked (and super bummed) if the to-be diner coming to the former Hard Times spot doesn’t serve breakfast.
PS - The Remedy’s breakfast is delicious and cheap, but I’m not sure if their late night ends at 1:30am or 2:00am… or later for that matter. (But alas, it’s certainly not in an easy walking distance).
Joey, were you drunk when you wrote that?
This thread amazes me.
“There was a place on Hillsborough Street called the Breakfast House…..”

I’m sorry. I had to just pause for a moment there…...
(Those were the days….)
A couple of things:
1.) Remember that the former Hard Times Cafe is becoming a diner that will be open late night. So, hold on to your seats for just a bit and you’ll have a diner option on Glenwood South.
2.) The thing that someone needs to do if they want the late night pizza crowd is have several flavors already prepared and ready for consumption. Nobody coming out of a bar at 2AM wants to sit around a wait for a pizza to be cooked. They just want something to eat.
Something like this…http://farm1.static.flickr.com/51/143702434_23bcb25cb6.jpg
“Saturation level”- kinda like the “we have sandwiches and cheap beer” places overrunning Raleigh? Besides Globe, Glenwood South sucks for food anyway. Armadillo Grill is so not good, it’s funny how packed they are at times.
mindcrime- I agree that glenwood south mostly sucks for food but the rockford is one of the best restaurants in raleigh as far as I’m concerned.
Forgive me, I do enjoy the Rockford as well, and Thaiphoon Bistro is a nice change of pace from pizza, wings, and burgers.
In addition to the aforementioned Rockford and Thaiphoon, I also enjoy the Red Room for Tapas and Paella. These are some really good options for everyday dining out. In addition, the “doesn’t suck” list should include Sullivans, Solas and 518 West.
I guess I see the glass as more than half full rather than seeing it as full of feces.
Sully’s and 518 are pretty good but my lack of a black BMW and an Ed Hardy shirt coupled with sport coat have prevented me from eating at Sola’s.
John, “2.) The thing that someone needs to do if they want the late night pizza crowd is have several flavors already prepared and ready for consumption. Nobody coming out of a bar at 2AM wants to sit around a wait for a pizza to be cooked. They just want something to eat.” - that is the way Sauced Pizza does it, during late-night. Available by the slice are cheese, pepperoni, and sausage only… they do it that way so they can keep it coming and being served as fast as it’s ordered.
I AM SICK OF THIS,
This place rocks!! So good!
