Barenaked Ladies Rap About the Shimmer Wall Video
The Barenaked Ladies played the Downtown Raleigh Amphitheater on Saturday night during Raleigh Wide Open. The band is known for their ad-lib raps and lyrics throughout their concerts and the Raleigh show was nothing of a surprise as they used The Shimmer Wall on the Raleigh Convention Center as the center of attention for their “raps” and ad-lib lyrics for If I had a Million Dollars. The band remarked that the oak tree was reminiscent of U2’s Joshua Tree album cover in If I Had a Million Dollars and also created a full chorus based around the art with the repeated phrase “Shimmer, Shimmer, Shimmer” uttered while the lead singer rapped on top.

I was at the show Saturday and it was great! I sat on the left side in section 3 this time and I must say it’s a much better experience from that side as far as entrance/exit, concessions and restroom facilities go. Now they just need to duplicate that effort on the right side. BNL did a great job. The freestyles were hilarious. The best one isn’t either of the videos posted. The best was the top 40 montage they did at the end of the show.

I didn’t go to the show but live a few blocks away and can confirm without a doubt the crowd noise was much greater for this show than any other so far. BNL must have put on a good show…
