There are a bunch of Bike Friendly events across Raleigh this Friday and through next week for “Bike to Work Week” May 11-15th. All of this is in an effort to promote alternative transit. Raleigh - Friday, May 15th - Community Leaders and Public Bicycle Ride, 8:30am - 9:30am
The City of Raleigh, Wake County and the North Carolina Department of Transportation will observe Bike to Work Week with an organized bicycle ride in downtown Raleigh on Friday, May 15th. The group ride is open to the public and will begin at 8:30am on the north side of the Bicentennial Mall (across from the Legislative Bldg). This bicycle ride that goes through the State Government Complex and Warehouse District is anticipated to take approximately 45 minutes. Please note that streets will be open to traffic and all participants must adhere to applicable North Carolina traffic laws during the ride. Following the ride, there will be some light breakfast refreshments will be available following the ride. This event is open to the public. Raleigh - Friday, May 15th – CAMPO Region BTWW Wrap-Up Social Event, 4:30pm – 6:00pm
Cap off a successful week of events promoting bicycle safety throughout the CAMPO region at social mixer event. Join area BTWW participants for light refreshments at Sitti Authentic Lebanese Restaurant located at 137 S. Wilmington Street in downtown Raleigh. If you are interested in attending this event please RSVP to Ken Withrow at ken.withrow@ci.raleigh.nc.us by May 11th.

If you are going to participate in Bike to Work Week, you should pledge to take the Smart Commute Challenge- http://smartcommutechallenge.org
All you have to do to participate in the Smart Commute Challenge is bike (or walk, bus, carpool, telework) for your commute to work at least once before May 30th. So if you do BTWW, you are already eligible!
This year there will be a variety of awesome prizes given out raffle-style to the Challenge participants. The grand prize is $2,500!
I am involved with the Capital Area Metropolitan Bicycle and Pedestrian Stakeholder’s Group that is organizing this and we are really excited to host this event this year. Please come out on Friday to learn about bike commuting, from route sharing to equipment needs, all in advance of Bike to Work Week, which is May 11-15th!!!
