Billion Year Voyage

Ready for a hypnotic voyage into your television? A new show on local television featuring Raleigh video artists have created a monthly series that may test your understanding of television and video art.

Acid Rain Production presents, Billion Year Voyage (remix), a collaborative video project between David Colagiovanni and Jerstin Crosby which explores the medium of television as a hypnotic vehicle capable of seducing couch-cushioned viewers into trance-like states.

The title of this piece is taken from Dr. Timothy Leary’s album, Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out, in which Leary states, “...Your personality, all your goals and your fears, little ambitions, the chess game of your life-you have to check that, and then that other side of you-that dark unconscious-all those animal impulses must be checked-you can’t take that on the billion year voyage to God. Are you ready?” The project references campy mysticism, vision quests, hallucinogenics, and the transformative nature of technology. A previous version of this collaborative video explored the web as a psychedelic landscape. The web remix remains in a state of constant flux at Billion Year Voyage. (warning, very bright website)

The show airs every Friday at 5:30pm and repeats every Sunday at 11pm on Raleigh community access channel. RTN 10 (on cable). A new episodes airs every month staring on first Friday and repeats for the rest of the month.

Future Show Schedule

Acid Rain Production is a televised video-art series. It airs on RTN 10, a cable access channel provided by the Raleigh Television Network and produced by citizen producers. Acid Rain Production is a unique venue for contemporary video work in which a single video art piece loops consistently for one hour, once a week for one month, on a community-based tv station that reaches over a million people in the Raleigh area. We hope that through the medium of television we can successfully link new-media artists to the community at large and bring about a better understanding of contemporary issues of artistic practice and social concern.
