Dan Auerbach, front man for the Black Keys, said about the warehouse and sprawl covered area surrounding Raleigh’s Disco Rodeo, “This part of town sucks.” And he’s probably right. But that’s okay, because these guys fucking rock. Seriously. Perhaps a bit too hard at times; at some point during the show, Auerbach opened up his finger during a song and pulled super glue out of his pocket to sap it back together.
The blues rock duo is the best of its genre this decade and as Jed rehashed, they’re “somewhere between the world of Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and The White Stripes.” Get the Black Keys album released April 1 of this year. Royal Bangs opened and performed quite well. Get their album released this past May.
The Disco Rodeo used to be the Ritz. The Ritz consistently booked good acts for years before selling the venue. Every now and then, you’ll see a decent mainstream act there. This show was certainly a treat. See below for more photos from the show.
