Nope, the band’s not from Raleigh and the show isn’t even in Raleigh. Both are Chapel Hill but oh my, will this be a reunion show not to be missed…Blankface will grace a local stage for the first time since August 1998.
Situating themselves between punk and emo (before there was an “Emo”), Blankface were a Chapel Hill band that recorded only a handful of songs. Most of which were full of energy and their debut album, A Better Day was fantastic, from beginning to end.
I owned a copy of A Better Day with no song titles, given to me by a friend in 1999 after they had already disbanded. Therefore, I can’t attest to their live shows but from what I have heard, they were fantastic. Or maybe I’m just creating this illusion in my own head.
Were you around and saw Blankface live? Tell us your stories. (Maybe Alli with an I could open???? Just a thought) Blankface were even kind enough to put this link on their myspace page where you can download every (the very few) songs they recorded. Start playing catch up now.

Yeah, I saw them a bunch back in the day. Went to the CD release party too. They were quite good.
You forgot to mention that Mitchell is a full fledged rock star now. Mitch is livin’ the luxury tour bus life now with Filter!
I was good friends with Al & Mitch in the 90’s. I went to most Blankface and Funbox shows! Their music brings a strong tinge of sentimentality. I thought I was TOO cool be frineds with them! HA! Love ya Al & Mitch!
Also, their original band, Funbox, included another fairly successfully friend of mine from back then and now. Nate Stalfa broke his drum sticks in with these guys!
Is that Adam Lazarras big head?
wow. this is crazy!!! being the very first blackface bassist, i wish i could make this special event!!! you guys always rocked faces off. oh, oh, remember that silly tight, shiny silver shirt i wore at our raleigh show (forgot the club’s name)? i think Nate was playing drums? where is Nate? oh and our trip to the outer banks? that was a long time ago, oh and those girls that we went and hung out on the beach after the show!!! my gosh.
One of the most energy-driven gigs I ever had the pleasure of being a part of was the release show at the Brewery with Jack running the board. I remember it clearly. Now I’m old… Glad they are doing this. Four Horsemen reunion in the future?...Nate Stalfa, Nashville, TN
Hell Yeah! Those guys rocked back in the day. It will be cool to see them play together again!
man i haven’t seen that photo for years, and it’s mine! i think i hit just about every blankface show, minus their jaunt up the east coast in the shortbus. good times. this show will be great…and they should get funsize to play, as i hear they are possibly on the reunion train as well!
