For North Carolina based Ramseur Records, things keep looking up. There is The Avett Brothers who are making the rounds through the US tour circuit and releasing a new album in July. There is theeverybodyfields (and Sam’s new side project The Japan Ten) that keep the folk coming in the area, when not covering 4 Non Blondes. As well as Samantha Crain, who has started touring relentlessly as well. In any case, Dolph Ramseur is a busy man, making big bands out of little known North Carolina names, quickly.

One little known name that has boomed over the past few years is the Chapel Hill art-folk outfit Bombadil. Like the other Ramseur bands, Bombadil stay on the road throughout much of the year. Touring is the way to spread the word and the music to a larger audience across the country. Like The Avetts, Bombadil are also prepping a new album for release on July 7th, Tarpits and Canyonlands, which was recorded by Scott Solter (The Mountain Goats, John Vanderslice, etc…) at Baucom Road Studios in Monroe, NC. They will bring a handful of these and other shanty-esque tunes to Lincoln Theatre on April 10th. The band also put together a short docu-video (posted below) about the making of the new album. “It was shot over a few days at Baucom Road Studios back in early February, and put together by the folks at Ramseur Records.”
You might want to show up for this performance by the band because it might be the last time you get to see them in Raleigh for a while, or anywhere for that matter. Before the show, Bombadil will be interviewed on WKNC at 5pm. More to come from Bombadil on New Raleigh next week. Stay Tuned!
