The mega corporate, yet now urban-friendly Borders has announced that it will add another store to the Raleigh area. The new store will be in Downtown Raleigh and two locations are being considered. The first is Kimbrell’s Furniture on Fayetteville Street and the second is the Raleigh Furniture Building on Hargett Street. The Kimbrell’s store would be fantastic for foot traffic but The Raleigh Furniture Building has three floors. Just think, a whole floor for another coffee shop. I bet The Morning Times won’t approve. Maybe Border’s could just use the Kimbrell’s Furniture location and sell books and the furniture.
At the time of this article, no comments were available from the Borders CEO or Greg Hatem, owner of The Raleigh Furniture Building. Rumors are burning that Barnes and Noble is teaming with The Christian Science Reading Room and The Gap has signed a contract to move into the lower floor of the old Wachovia building that has been empty for years.
As great as this news may sound, it is more fantastical than fantastic. Spring brings out the best in hopes and dreams for a city in transition, so on that note….April Fool’s!
