Boylan Bridge Brewpub to Open in August

Announced today on their website, the Boylan Bridge Brewpub will finally open its doors on August 25, 2008. The construction will soon wind down and the beers will be flowing, on top of the bridge, with one of the best views of downtown. Think of the view you’ll have of the Shimmer Wall from the pub at night.

Now that all the legal problems are put aside, Boylan Bridge Brewpub will be a reality. They even have a “name the beer” contest on their website. I still have that wooden nickel Andrew Leager gave out years ago at the interest meeting for this pub.  I wonder if they’ll still honor it?

TODAY - Thursday July 3, 2008 - The Boylan Bridge Brewpub will open on AUGUST 25, 2008. That’s right, in 53 drinking days we will serve our first beer. (43 drinking days if you skip Sunday, 35 drinking days if you don’t drink on the weekend, and 16 drinking days if you only drink on the weekend.)

Today at The Bridge we have finished the deck for the outside dining area, the tile has arrived and is ready for the bathrooms, cabinets are ready, booths are ready, and the cold room for our brewed beer is ready. Remaining on our to-do-list is the kitchen, bar top, some brewing connectivity, and staffing. We’re almost there. View the gallery page for some of these images.

Can’t wait!  I hope they have some Scottish Ale fermenting for me.

I can’t wait for this to open!

They should be careful of the Name That Beer contest to not use names already taken.  They don’t need that trouble again.

  • viridari07/03 11:49 AM

Between Google and BeerAdvocate.com, they can pretty easily make sure any beer names that they choose are unique.

I submitted a few today.  All had local flavor to them and are, AFAIK, unique.

That deck/view is gorgeous! I can’t wait to try it out! (Preferably on a day when it’s not 95. Too bad they weren’t open in time for all the lovely spring weather we had earlier this year.)

Where will we park? Are there any plans to provide parking, that is if you don’t living in walking distance to the new pub?

  • Kevin08/02 05:37 PM

I’m very excited about this and don’t want to be a Debbie Downer.  I drove by yesterday, and it didn’t look like they had a chance of opening in August.  Boards are still covering some windows, and the building looked rough.  The deck is 100% go with the pergolas up.

  • APM08/05 12:17 PM

They now have what looks like picnic benches on the deck.  Couldn’t they come up with something a little nicer and more comfortable?

  • OCOG08/05 12:36 PM

    (whispering)
if they brew it, we will come

(get your minds out of the gutter!)

  • viridari08/05 01:05 PM

APM - It’s about the beer, not the furniture.  Get your priorities straight.  That’s like walking into a great BBQ joint and complaining about the vinyl tablecloths and abundant taxidermy.

If the furniture bothers you that badly, don’t go.  More fresh beer for me.

  • APM08/05 01:23 PM

Seeing as how they haven’t even hired a brewmaster yet, we’ll see how great that beer is.  I want this place to be great, but I have my doubts.

  • JOE09/11 08:15 AM

I was checking the place out the other day, and given the “MAN” gives them permission to open, it’ll be Thanksgiving before they are ready to open. The owners are clueless about opening a restaurant, let alone, a brewpub. Read their business plan on their web site: clueless.
They got to get some people that know what they’re doing, people who have been there and done that, not dreamers.
Anyways, looking forward to seeing how it turns out, and having a pint.
I’ll bring my 45 for protection in the HOOD.

“I’ll bring my 45 for protection in the HOOD.”

Are you kidding me?  I walk around there at night all the time.

  • Magnus09/11 08:49 AM

Nothing wrong with carrying a .45.  Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

The only potential problem I can see is that under NC law you can’t carry a handgun into an establishment that sells alcohol for on-site consumption (but you can carry into, say, a supermarket that sells wine & beer for you to consume elsewhere).  Frankly I think it’s an unconstitutional law, anyway, so I don’t personally have a problem with Joe bringing his .45 to the brewpub.

  • Christopher Triplett09/11 09:43 AM

Carrying a hand gun in a bar:  What’s wrong with that?:  People get drunk.  Guns should not be around drunk people, neither should automobile keys.
    -
Aside from that, is the law unconstitutional...no.  Why?  Because no one is forcing you to go into the bar.  It’s not different that outlawing smoking indoors (which I would love to see here).  I don’t want your second hand smoke or your stray bullets.
    -
Also, if you think that particular area harbors crime, then you don’t know much about Raleigh.

  • Magnus09/11 09:50 AM

The US and NC Constitutions both clearly enumerate an individual right to keep and bear arms, both affirmed by SCOTUS and the NC Supreme Court.

There is no such enumerated right to smoke-free air.

If you don’t like smoke, no one is forcing you to go into the bar.

Nothing wrong with guns in a bar.  Guns aren’t a problem.  People are a problem.

For further reading, check out the US Constitution’s Bill of Rights, and the non-binding Bill of No Rights (which I cannot seem to post a link to, but if you google “bill of no rights” it comes up right away).

“The US and NC Constitutions both clearly enumerate an individual right to keep and bear arms, both affirmed by SCOTUS and the NC Supreme Court.

There is no such enumerated right to smoke-free air.”

Am I the only one who sees a problem with that?

A gun has the potential to kill people if someone misuses it. Cigarette smoke WILL adversely effect the health of people around it, wheither they choose so or not, just from exposure.

I don’t have a problem with the right to bear arms, but when alcohol is involved, I can see it being an issue. I’d rather eliminate the potential of someone irresponsibly using a gun under the influence of alcohol than say, “Well, most of the people bringing guns here are responsible. There might be one or two who aren’t.” All it takes is one.

And the area around the Brewpub is not dangerous, anyway.

RE: “the Hood” comment by Joe.

Not even close.  Christopher and Betsy are correct about the area.
