Brian Walsby/The Melvins Book/Cd Release Party Friday

image

Raleigh, get out your Rock n Roll Shoes.  If it’s anything like last year’s Manchild 2 event, Friday’s Brian Walsby / Melvin’s Book/CD Release Party (Manchild 3 / Making Love Demos), hosted by Bifocal Media should be proof that Raleigh is in need of a replacement for Kings Barcade.

Brian Walsby is synonymous with the history of punk and hardcore music in this region and considering the dying scene of this music in Raleigh, we need more events like this to keep the volume raised in the amps.  Walsby has played drums in various local punk bands, but keeps his sketching hand free at all times, creating cover art and comical commentary on the punk industry.  Manchild 3 is another collection of these sketches, many of which happen in and around the Raleigh area.  You may even see an ad by yours truly between the Walsby drawings.  The event will consist of food, comics, beers, and lots of rock n roll.  You are encouraged to dress nice, as Charles Cardello (head of Bifocal Media) graced Kings last year with a rare but dashing black suit appearance.

BFM026 BRIAN WALSBY: MANCHILD 3 (BOOK)/THE MELVINS: MAKING LOVE DEMOS (CD)

Elder punk/art statesman Brian Walsby is back with another stinging slab of satirical comic art. In this new collection, Brian applies his fine tuned illustrative skill and wit to the following masterpieces: The Melvins 2006 Tour Diary, Life After Black Flag, SCTV: The Best Goddamn Comedy Show Ever, Magical Melvins Moments, Hang The DJ, Careers of the Black Flag My War Puppet, How I Survived Grunge, Rules For Young Rock Bands On TV, Whatever Became of Your Favorite Punk Rock Mascots, Rodney On the Rock, Well Meaning White Guilt, and many others.

Oh yeah… MANCHILD 3 comes with a Melvins CD. The Making Love Demos is a collection of 8 unreleased tracks recorded by the band in 1987. While the original master tapes have long since disappeared, It just so happens that Mr. Walsby was given a copy of this recording back in ‘88 and held onto it just for this very moment. We’ve had the whole thing mastered and tweaked for your listening/collecting pleasure. It’s still raw as hell, but we like it that way. Four of these songs were re-tooled and recorded for the Ozma record. Four of them exist only on this CD.

2000 copies available October, 9 2007 in Stores. Pre-orders will go out a week or 2 before the stores get them.

thanks,
Brian Walsby and Charles Cardello

Walsby quoted on The Melvin’s disc:

“Almost twenty years ago, Dale taped this for me and I have listened to it ever since. Frankly, I am surprised that they have never unearthed this. It is among my very favorite Melvins recordings. Recorded shortly after the release of “Gluey Porch Treatments”, this homemade four track won’t be confused with “Sergeant Pepper” in terms of production values (although we have boosted the levels somewhat), but fucking A, the songs and the performance more then makes up for that. It was also the last thing the band recorded with original bass player Matt Lukin, a fitting end to the band’s first album lineup… Some of these then new songs ended up on “Ozma”. I actually prefer these versions. Other songs were lost in the shuffle but are as good as anything the band has put out. As for the band themselves, Dale is on fire on all of these tracks. Buzz’s vocals have never been any more twisted, sneering or evil. I am pleased as punch that these guys have let me release this material in conjunction with my new book. Me and Charles are both really happy about this. Obviously this will sell my book a lot easier then the previous two. Sadly, the band’s version of a Kiss song from which the title of the demos have been taken didn’t make the cut, as a abrupt tape drop in assured that said fact. Besides, Gene Simmons might get pissed off. I don’t need that trouble.“
