Update: Brooklyn Heights is now open.
Another new business is coming soon to Raleigh via Glenwood South. Enriching the string of freestanding structures that line the west side of Glenwood leading up to the Mellow Mushroom, Brooklyn Heights Bar will provide a hip and comfortable alternative to the establishments across the street that draw business up inside the neighboring mixed-use mid-rise buildings from the 90’s.
Brooklyn Heights Bar positively contributes to the character of the area, establishing an identity by taking its name from the residential area across Peace Street. The name and location suggest that the target audience would be aimed somewhere closer to Rockford and FM Goods than Hi-Five, for instance. Nonetheless, the location itself should draw a wide range of patrons from the increasingly hopping scene forming around Glenwood South.
The business will occupy the space where Firefly, a hip
high dollar
shoe store, once operated.

Funny, I had heard they called it that cuz it’s halfway between the Brooklyn neighborhood and the Boylan Heights neighborhood. Heh.
I’ve got to ask….what exactly determines “hip”? It’s used twice in this article, and an awful lot on this site.
According to Merriam-Webster Unabridged:
1: characterized by a keen informed awareness of or interest in what is new or smart : extremely alert and knowing
2: very fashionable : trendy
However, I much prefer THIS
It’s so nice to finally find a non-smoking, eclectic establishment in Glenwood South to have a glass of wine and relax! The staff is knowledgeable and attentive. It felt comfortable to me because it didn’t have the ambiance of a typical bar….......it’s a 1920’s house, I think, that’s been renovated into a respectable place for us…....and we know who we are….......to go and enjoy the evening! Do visit!
