Night Life

Brooklyn Heights Bar Now Open

Managing partner Jason Howard has quietly opened the doors of Brooklyn Heights bar on Glenwood south in Raleigh. Minimal in pomp, Brooklyn Heights is a casually refined refit of one of the dwindling one-story structures on Glenwood south. Previously occoupied by the contemporary shore store Firefly, the house was also the residence of the late Avery C. Upchurch—Raleigh’s mayor from 1983-1993.

The interior now sports a welcoming bar of purple heart wood. The establishment also defines a more private experience via clustered couches within the limited square footage.

The bar features a growing wine list, a range of liquors, and domestic and imported beers. The wine and featured beers will rotate per the establishments whims, and they may feature wineries on occasion.

Thursday and Saturday nights will be host to the house DJ spinning whatever.

Tasca Brava, the highly acclaimed restaurant now next door, will eventually be providing a limited selection of tapas at Brooklyn Heights from 5-9pm. It’s great to see a new establishment take advantage of a fantastic local resource just next door.

Look for an upcoming expansion of Brooklyn Heights Bar. The owners will be slightly extending the porch area and building an outdoor seating patio in the front yard. This expansion will probably double the size of the bar and will be a good addition to the outdoor drinking options in the area. Brooklyn Heights has opened at the dawn of the summer season and promises to provide a cool atmosphere to the expanding Glenwood south strip.
