Burning Coal Theatre Company, a performing arts staple in the greater Raleigh area for over a decade, will debut their newest production this weekend, but you’ll have to follow them up and down Fayetteville Street to watch it. Main Street/Fayetteville Street is a roving play that will lead the audience from places like City Market to where Casso’s Tavern used to sit by the Capitol. Scripted by Oakwood writer Ian Finley (who was named Tar Heel of the Week last week by the News & Observer), Main Street/Fayetteville Street captures Raleigh’s rich history while highlighting the humor and drama of our city’s past. Stories include Thomas Brigg’s buried gold, Raleigh’s “crime of the century,” President Andrew Johnson’s childhood, the infamous newspaper rivalries, and several more. This afternoon from 12-1, actor Greg Paul and writer Ian Finley will be on NPR talking about the performance and acting out some of the scenes, so be sure to check it out.

Showtimes are Saturday at 6:30 and Sunday at 2:00.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students.

Don’t forget, Burning Coal is also doing “Hysteria” this weekend at their theater on Polk Street.  They got GREAT reviews when they opened last weekend.  I am going to see that SAturday and will try to catch Ian’s movable piece on Sunday.  See the link above for tickets to both.
