Charlotte Observer Endorses McCrory for Governor

Yesterday The Charlotte paper endorsed their mayor of 13 years.  McCrory is a republican, urban-minded mayor who raised taxes to fund the Lynx light rail in Charlotte and when pressed said he would support the same kind of sales tax to fund the Triangles transit ambitions. For the first time in over 20 years, North Carolina could very well elect a Republican Governor.

The Observer cites reasons like McCrory’s consistent attention to growth and transit, but also stretches saying he has successfully dealt with crime.  It seems the tangible aspects of McCrory’s record make it tough for Perdue to stand up to him.  Last week at WakeUp’s panel, both panelists seemed convinced that a McCrory victory was very possible even in a year of expected Democrat victories.

The Observer cited reasoning for not supporting Purdue:

But we detect no core compass within her. She speaks in platitudes, not specifics. She often appears governed by polls, changing her stance, for instance, on oil drilling and refusing to lead on the issue of illegal immigration.

The Charlotte Observer’s Endorsement.
