Chatham County Line Home For Christmas

Fresh off their UK/ Ireland tour last month, Chatham County Line is back home in Raleigh and readying for their sixth annual Holiday Ho Ho Down at The Pour House this Friday night, December 19th. The Jackets, a side project of CCL’s John Teer and Chandler Holt featuring Roger Gupton of Hotel Lights and Evans Nicholson of The Thad Cockrell Band, will open the show at 10.

Tickets are $17 in advance and $20 at the door. Is this really the band that used to that serenade the porch-goers of Sadlack’s Heroes every Tuesday for tips and sandwiches? Where is the hometown love now? Perhaps the band has gotten use to being paid in Euros. I am not implying that the band has not grown since then. Seriously, they’ve always been damn fine at what they do and I have always loved the illusion of standing around a single mic. If you can spring for the show heading into the holidays, I’m sure it will be a solid performance. If not, catch them live on the web via Music.MyNC today, Wednesday December 17th at 4. Chatham County Line will have a second Raleigh gig on January 9th, playing the 2009 North Carolina Governor’s Inaugural Ball.

Really?  Is $20 too much to see an accomplished band?  All the money at the door goes directly into the hands of the band members - I think it’s a sound investment.  When folks stop shelling out for live shows, live shows will cease to exist and everything will become streamed in through a cable onto a box and projected to a one person audience.  You’re not just paying an entry fee for a show, you’re paying for the experience and at The Pour House - it’s a guaranteed Good Time!

Is this seriously a complaint about the ticket price? Seriously? $17 in advance for a band that has “always been damn fine at what they do” seems like a bargain to me.

The price of the ticket is well worth it- and they are so much better live than on tv.  No doubt it will sell out too.

i think the price is a little steep, but well worth it.  always a kick-ass show—i already have my tickets!  and yeh, i do believe it will sell out…..

Hopefully with a $17 cover everyone will actually be there to see the band.  The large number of people that come to The Pour House to just drink and chat have really hurt a lot of quieter shows (Thad Cockrell, Old Habits, etc.) that could have been a whole better.  (Of course, the large number of Broughtonites that will be back in town and catching up with each other may hurt this show as well.)

Oh please, $20 is nothing and is a steal in terms of seeing a great band like CCL perform.  Every article on NR has some form of whining in it.

    DPK,

Why do you read and comment on NR if you think that “every article…has some form of whining in it”? Isn’t that statement whining itself?

  • DPK12/18 12:49 AM

Well despite the whining, NR does do a good job reporting things that nobody else seems to want to cover.  I just wish they wouldn’t always try to spin a negative so often.

$20 is steep, but these guys deserve it.  They are dedicated to being top notch musicians and Dave Wilson is the best songwriter around anywhere.  Plus, I’m intrigued about the Jackets?

I’d like to report that I went to the show last night.  I think it was hands down the best show of the year.  It was definitely the most fun I’ve had a show in a long time.  The Jackets opened and rocked.  For a new band they have a lot of promise.  CCL had trouble w/sound, but that is more b/c of the huge crowd on hand.
The hightlight was the Stillhouse/CCL jam at the end.  The crowd thinned out a bit and the die hards were left to enjoy an amazing set.  $20 was the deal for 3 sets of great original music.
