Cherry Bounce Fest 2010 Schedule and More

Cherry Bounce Fest 2010 Schedule and More

The Cherry Bounce Fest will return for a third year in Downtown Raleigh at the end of this month. As it has the past few years, it will also coincide with the Raleigh Wide Open celebration on Fayetteville Street that is hosted by the City of Raleigh. Last year saw Cherry Bounce organizing a handful of musical events across a full week at various venues in downtown. This year, Billy Warden and Greg Behr are taking a different approach and are curating three days full of events including movies, cabaret and gouge wrestling (as well as a full day of music on Hargett Street).

Javelin, the dumpster diving vinyl electro duo, will headline the Saturday stage with Colombia’s groovy Bomba Estereo in front of The Raleigh Times. It should be a great night of international beats and dancing in the heat on Hargett. Javelin are also playing a date in Raleigh in September for Hopscotch.

Cherry Bounce is back with more vim, vigor and variety than ever, including the Love vs. Lust Cabaret (Thursday, 7/29), the Beach Bounce Movie Night (Friday, 7/30) and the Big Bounce Music & Mayhem Stage (Saturday, 7/31).  All courtesy of lead sponsors The Raleigh Times and PBR.

On Saturday, 7/31, the action includes not only musical headliners Javelin and international dance act Bomba Estereo, but a bonafide professional wrestling bout for the Cherry Bounce Heavyweight Championship (presented by GOUGE Wrestling with official championship belt by local sculptor Matt McConnell).  The music and mayhem—all free—unfold on Hargett St. outside presenting sponsor The Raleigh Times (14 E. Hargett St.) starting at noon.

On Friday, 7/30, Beach Bounce Night serves up a tropical party for the screening of a sun’n’fun movie, “Lord of the Flies,” and vintage, on-point educational films.  Produced by A/V Geeks, the summer-y soiree is the first entertainment event ever scheduled in the outdoor courtyard at Sitti restaurant (137 S. Wilmington).  The show is free, with food and drink available prior and during. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. Movies at sundown.

On Thursday, 7/29, award-winning slam poets led by dynamo Dasan Ahanu gather amid burlesque performers, music and a PBaRt show from co-sponsor PBR for the Love vs. Lust Cabaret.  The wooing starts at 8:30pm in the Extra Gravy room above Gravy restaurant (135 S. Wilmington).  The show is free, with food and drink available prior and during.

Javelin is a fun show, for sure.

That graphic is hard to read. Does that say, “summer blockbuster Lord of the Flies?”  What summer was that?

Looks like a lot of fun, though.  I bet the Sitti courtyard would be a great place for a small, outdoor movie.

Please tell me it’s Damien Wayne vs. Jimmy Jack Funk Jr. WHILE Javelin is playing.

    That would rule.

Gouge Wrestling is awesome.  I hope Tennessee Ernie Nord is there.
