Chris London, who runs Social The Magazine, is opening a restaurant/bar across from the Downtown Raleigh Amphitheater and Deep South Bar called Chris London’s Backstage. We wonder what performers will be willing to use the bar/sandwich shop as their ‘backstage’ retreat, the self-aggrandizing brand is so grating, we can’t imagine who. The website states September 2010. Looks like the Warehouse District is starting to love rock ‘n roll restaurants.

See the Chris London’s Backstage page.

A sandwich shop/ tavern could do well here.  Unfortunately they probably wont know where they went wrong until its too late.  It will be like the shortlived bar “Hush” that opened in the Depot, it was the disaster of the decade.  But things shook out and The Union seems to be doing okay.  Same thing will happen here.

September means September plus 3 months.  Its an idea that might work.

Think of all of the Jouhnson County rednecks that want a night in the big city.  They go to The Pit and find that they have to wait 1hr for a table. “F this bo… I aint pay in $15 for BBQ plus Charley Danials starts in 45 at that new amp o theater across the street”

what’s wrong with you people?  I thought I might come to this website to get some intelligent news - but if dorks like you get to post on here, no thanks… I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing.  I actually like living downtown and things that go on here - if you don’t, then MOVE

it’s awful when a new bar/restaurant opens in a vacant space. i hate how i’m forced to go to these new places and how inevitably they will draw thousands of people from the pool of a stereotype i don’t like. eventually downtown raleigh will be full of people i don’t like, all enjoying their stupid new hangouts, taking up all the parking, crowding me out of my hangout six blocks away, ruining everything. next thing you know, they’ll start buying tickets for amphitheater shows and performing arts center shows and then eventually those two tax drains will start getting better shows, then it really gets bad - people will start coming downtown from all over, and some day, maybe even twenty years from now, when someone in nebraska says “raleigh”, they won’t have to follow it with “north carolina”. then we’re really screwed. it’s douchebags like the owner of this restaurant who ruin it for the rest of us.

^^ Yup.  That’s exactly how the post and the comments come off, and is one of those examples of how NR is more hipster blog than news (which is fine).

For those of us who aren’t hipsters, but also don’t have “frosted tips and tribal tats” either, it’s kind of a letdown.  Hard to be sympathetic to the crying over Kings and Jackpot when you read this stuff.  If it isn’t a hipster favorite, it’s douchy?  Nice.

I peeped in there the other day and it looked pretty much ready.  Its probably the standard inspector saying it should be this way.  Then the next inspector says it has to be a different way.  Thats the name of the restaurant game…

    Sandwich recommendation:

Picture this Stormy on a Zamboni holding a Ham Sandwich.  It would be called the Jamboni.

Recommended drink would be a Hurricane!

Or a Rare Roast Beef sandwich (made from veal of course) with plenty of au jus on pumpernickel.  This bloody goodness would be shared by the whole family.  It would be called The Aristocrat!
