The Raleigh City Council will vote today (Tuesday January 5th) on whether or not to move forward on the Clarence Lightner Public Safety Center. The new law enforcement headquarters will be located on Hargett Street (Nash Square) in Downtown Raleigh and will consist of 17 stories, 300,000 square feet and cost $205 million dollars.

The Council seems split, so we’ll see what happens.

Again, the comments on WRAL’s story about this are priceless.  For example, this building will be a big tall target for terrorists who want to take out all of our public services with one shot.

yeah, wral reminds me of how uneducated this “highly educated” area is.

WRAL has also led me to truly hating the way republicans think.  Republicans are useless to me now thanks to WRAL.

just read WRAL’s ‘comment’s as well.

most of these people are idiots.  if they had their way, we wouldn’t pay for roads or sewer systems.

One jackass used an analogy of ‘his wife’ who apparently spends all day trying to spend ‘his’ money.  He sounds like a real winner. (Rush Limbaugh would be proud)

Why not go ahead and build now while construction cost are down?  I’m just saying, they’ll eventually have to address this issue again want they?

$666 per square foot (do the math) is an incredibly expensive building. Office towers in Manhattan are built for less than that. What is making this building so expensive? Council had better have an explanation if this forces a tax increase.
