The Visual Art Exchange and the Raleigh Arts Commission are once again inviting the public to submit pieces of art to adorn the new City Plaza. The year-long tenure is almost up for the current three pieces, with the new work slated to debut during SparkCon, September 16. According to the time line, installation of the new pieces will be installed just in time fore the people at Hopscotch to enjoy as well.

The deadline for entries June 7, 2010 @ 5:00, so hurry up and get to work. There is a $2,000 honorarium for the selected artists, plus an additional stipend for the transporting ans installing of the piece.

    Are they replacing the bloody awful light towers as well?  If not, I have a
    performance piece I’d like to propose that involves vomiting uncontrollably in the middle of the plaza.

    Damn.  I’m going to miss overhearing young children beg their moms to play on the “giant toy truck”.

    There has been a lot of complaining about the homeless in Moore Square on this site.  I’m not saying this is a great idea but Raleigh could pay the homeless people to stand on the pedestal and act like those creepy statute people you see in big cities.  It would require a bigger budget than $2000 but it would kill two birds with one stone.
