The Capital Boulevard Corridor is one of the main points of expansion for Downtown Raleigh. A lot was considered in the past few years with the 2030 plan (including a riverwalk and more retail) and it looks like the City of Raleigh is serious about moving forward with developing this region of downtown and beyond.
from the City of Raleigh:
The City of Raleigh will hold a public workshop on the Capital Boulevard Corridor Study on Thursday, June 24, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the new vehicle showroom at the Bobby Murray Chevrolet dealership located at 1820 Capital Blvd. Registration and check-in begins at 6 p.m. and light refreshments will be served.
The first public workshop is being held to define the corridor study area, identify key issues and opportunities, and refine the next steps in the study process. A brief presentation of the history of the corridor and a preliminary inventory of known issues will be given. Afterward, small group discussions will be held to gather public input on how best to transform Capital Boulevard into a vibrant mixed-use corridor. Capital Boulevard serves as the primary gateway to the heart of Raleigh and offers unique opportunities for redevelopment, open space creation, water quality improvement, and transit.
Parking for the public workshop at Bobby Murray Chevrolet will be available outside the showroom and in the adjacent Flea Market Mall parking lot. To register to attend, go to www.raleighnc.gov/planning. Special accommodations for residents with disabilities can be made by calling the City’s Public Affairs Department at 996-3100

I would be thrilled to bring down the wrecking ball on that horrible strip mall at Capital and Crabtree. That thing is a blight, and the neighbourhood deserves better.
Any idea how this area is currently zoned? That might have a lot to do with its current sad condition.
Wish they’d redesign the median of Capital Blvd (f/k/a North Blvd) between Wade Ave and the split at the railroad bridge.
Damn! I wish I were in town for this. I’ll be out of the country on business. Damn! Damn! Damn! I really want to see Capital returned to a city street (instead of a limited access demi-highway) all the way to Wade Ave. from DT. This would allow the east and west side of Capital to develop in a more cohesive urban way. Another option would be to create a mini-big-dig and submerge Capital as a limited access road to DT from Wade and vice versa. This would allow the city to develop a new network of slower more urban connections to be accessed by foot and vehicles in the area.
Keep posting stuff like this i really like it
