Gears of War 2, one of the biggest games of 2008, was released last Friday, selling 2.1 million copies. The game is by Epic Games, a studio in Cary, and is the pet project of lead designer Cliff Bleszinski, or CliffyB, a downtown Raleigh resident. Bleszinski has had a string of mega video game hits and even though you might run into him on Glenwood South, he is a bona fide celebrity for the adolescent boys and 20-somethings who play his games. You may also have seen his Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder riding around town; Blezinski is known for being showy, just like his games.
Well, with 2.1 million out of the gate like that, Blezinski and Epic are about to be getting a whole lot more wealthy. Let’s be glad they are right here in the Triangle and spending their money in Raleigh.
