It has been sixty years since The College of Design started as the School of Design in 1948- beginning with two programs- architecture and landscape architecture. Three years later industrial design was added, followed by graphic design and an arts program later. Henry L. Kamphoefner, along with Eduardo Catalano, Buckminster Fuller, Lewis Mumford, and Matthew Nowicki worked to shape the early school into a prestigious house of design education and the center of modernism on the mid-Atlantic. All these years later the the COD looks back with a year of celebrations the final event on April 4th 2009. In preparation for that event the COD has launched a new website to chronicle the year of celebration leading up to the event as well as memories and history from the past. The site introduces the College of Design’s event under the theme “DESIGN: Forging the Future” a celebration of Alumni’s contributions.
The NC State University College of Design kicks off its 60th Anniversary Celebration: “DESIGN: Forging the Future”, with a tribute to the thousands of ways our alumni have positively impacted the world in which we live.
