Cy Rawls Benefit @ Slims

Cy Rawls was diagnosed with a brain tumor over a few weeks ago.  Right now, he is at his parents home, here in Raleigh, receiving chemo at Duke Raleigh Hospital (old Raleigh Community Hospital).  He is expected to be in outpatient chemo for another month, and he has no insurance, which means that his medical bills are piling up.  An A/V Geeks benefit happened this past Sunday at Tir-Na-Nog.  It was a very good turn out.  The A/V Geeks hope to surpass the amount they raised that night with the show at Local 506 on August 25.  So, mark your calenders.  Another benefit show has been scheduled at the Cat’s Cradle on August 29th.  It will feature Birds of Avalon, The Rosebuds and Superchunk.  Wow!

Slims will host a benefit for Cy this Friday.  Grass Widow, Devour and Crossed Eyes are bringing the jams.  Drew Wood of Grass Widow is also trying to organize a benefit compilation of local artists for Cy.  If you want to help with that, email him at

Thanks to Chris Toenes for his article in the Independent.  Thanks to Dave and Kerry Cantwell for keeping us posted on Cy Rawls’ condition.

Any well-wishes and donations for Cy can be sent to:
