One of the most famous people to come out of Raleigh (well, to sort of come out of Raleigh, he was actually born in upstate New York) comes home this week. NPR personality and author extraordinaire David Sedaris will be at Quail Ridge Books on Wednesday celebrating the release of his latest book, When You Are Engulfed In Flames, arriving in paperback.

The details have changed a bit from the original plan. He’ll now begin signing books at 4 pm, stop at 6pm for the program and reading, then go back to signing as long as time permits. The QR website states that this is a ticketed event, and tickets can be obtained with the purchase of a book or CD (previously purchased books will be signed only if time allows).

They’ll be setting up speakers to broadcast the program in the parking lot, so grab some food next door at the Whole Foods and enjoy the show!

For more information, visit the Quail Ridge Books website.

Warning to anyone going…carpool or better yet, take a bus or bicycle if possible.  The lot at Ridgewood Shopping Center barely is able to handle most of Quail Ridge’s normal author events.  One this well-known is sure to fill it up even worse.  (Plus all the other stores there like Whole Foods, Tripps, RiteAid, etc.)

That serves as a warning to anyone planning to swing by the Wellspring at that time as well….

He moved to Raleigh when he was in 2nd grade, that doesn’t make him much of a New Yorker.

His family is still here, with the exception of Amy. He comes here more often to visit them and it is never mentioned in the press.

I really loved Me Talk Pretty One Day. Hilarious. Haven’t gotten around to buying When You Are Engulfed in Flames, but I will.

We figured out the Raleigh connection when we read his books - and he wrote extensively about it.

Kids! He now lives in France with his boyfriend. And, yes, experiences from our youth do make very good novels!

when you are engulfed…. is not side-splitting funny but if you like his style, you’ll enjoy the book.

You really missed out, then.  The readings were hilarious, but the wait to have a book signed was insane.  I think I was there for 5 and a half-hours, all told.  That said, the man does do a good job of relating to people who have waited in line to have a book signed.
