New Raleigh has teamed up with DiggUp Tapes as well as Deja Mi, PBR and Nice Price Books to bring you the first FREE DiggUp Tapes Show Series at Kings Barcade next Friday, July 29th. The show will feature local rockers Gross Ghost (which is lead by the vocals of the ultra-prolic local rocker Mike Dillon)  and two Baltimore bands, Ed Schrader's Music Beat and Fossil Eyes.

You may not be too familiar with The DiggUp Tapes crew, who we've told you about before, but you may be rattling off a handful of their artists by year's end.  You already know Lonnie Walker and may have seen Naps, who played their first show at our Cherry Bounce Showcase a few years ago, but from the beautiful new single by Nieces and Nephews, to Nests and their latest band, T0W3RS, Nathan Price and crew are helping to keep the underground music scene in the Triangle alive.

The DiggUp Tapes Series Show Number One will be the after party for the Bon Iver / Rosebuds Amphitheater show, so come on down and check out some great (FREE!) music. More info on the bands below and over at the Kings Barcade Website. Show starts at 10:30pm.

Also, as an incentive and collaboration between each of the sponsors, if you check into Facebook at Nice Price starting this week you will get a free diggup cassingle of Gross Ghost & Veelee.

RSVP for the Facebook Event, which is filling up quickly.

Gross Ghost (Carrboro; GripTapes)

Whether you realize it or not Gross Ghost is on the way to taking over the Triangle.  With recent digital EP’s of pure garage pop greatness that refuse to leave your head phones and buzz including from Pitchfork’s underground blog group Altered Zones and a video segment for Vice Magazines Noisey series it’s not hard to see why.

This is  perfect psychedelic pop for a lazy weekend – for those moments of observing the nothing yet everything. It shrouds you in a warmth – a sonic, kaleidoscopic voyage accompanied by glowing mellifluous layers of jangly, harmonious guitars. An ode to memory. A tribute to trying times – challenging yet loved. Like an fondness of bittersweet memories – recalling both the trials and tribulations of adoration in song.

Ed Schrader’s Music Beat (Baltimore; Load Records)

Operating under the moniker Ed Schrader’s Music Beat, Ed Schrader has a new band. Joining Schrader over the past year has been Devlin Rice, who was added to play bass with Ed when “he was asked to play a rave in Baltimore.” It’s been working out rather well since, as Ed continues to enforce his drum and vocal performance but now with the added bonus of Devlin’s bass.

Ed and Devlin have been tearing up live shows including two SOLD OUT nights at Kings opening for Baltimore Friends Future Islands constantly reminding crowds of the infinite power of what a floor tom/electric bass duo can do.

Fossil Eyes (Baltimore; g e n p o p records)

Fossil Eyes are an echoey-hallway, lo-fi, unabashedly retro beach-pop/postpunk band that bests a wealth of the stuff out there matching a similar description—and there is a lot—not just for knowing how to play their instruments and doing so really well, but for writing wicked efficient to-the-chase songs.  Doing a great deal with a little, in other words, which is what this lo-fi kind of stuff is supposed to be all about—summer-in-Cali vocal harmonies plus a few sweet little roadhouse blues guitar licks equals maximum joy.

This show is sponsored by New Raleigh, Deja MI, Nice Price Books and PBR.
