DiggUpTapes Show Series T0W3RS EP Release w/ Invisible Hand & Naked Gods

Our friends over at DiggUp Tapes have been curating some great (and free!) shows over the past few months at Kings Barcade. This month's installment will be more of this same greatness. Thursday's show will feature the release of the new EP by local band T0W3RS with Invisible Hand (Charlottesville, VA) and Naked Gods (Boone, NC) rounding out the lineup. These shows are usually filled to capacity, so get there early to claim your spot to see T0W3RS and crew destroy Thursday night. Oh, and did we mention that the show is free. 

T0W3RS is  easiliy one of the best new bands in the Triangle and you can preview the new EP over at DiggUp Tapes. The EP will be available for purchase on (you guessed it) tape, with a digital download code attached, at the Thursday show.

It’s a rare artist that can unite the visceral with the cerebral. In an era where blogs brand sounds in strings of syllables and Pitchfork is part of a daily vernacular, many sounds are all too easy to categorize. T0W3RS is the rare band whose songs don’t fall neatly in line with the status quo. Like Derek Torres, the creative force behind the project (and formerly of Lake Inferior), it’s an amalgamation of experience and emotion, a multifaceted glimpse at being a twentysomething on an unknown horizon. It’s this duality that gives the songs on The Summertime EP and If All We Have is Time so much force — they’re the tightrope between the universal and the extraterrestrial, the addictively hook-laden rock ‘n’ roll and the ephemeral edge of experimental music. Who hasn’t known and lost love? Who doesn’t like a catchy pop song with the vitriol and perception of a Bukowski poem?

There are too many intricacies and layers to cast T0W3RS’ music into the watered-down net of a trendy genre. Who knows where these songs will take you, especially during Torres and company’s energetic and connective performances. Ultimately, that’s beside the point, because whether you’re behind a pair of headphones or standing next to a stage, these songs go for the gut, and it’s a feeling that’s both rare and transformative.

Charlottesville’s Invisible Hand, fronted by Adam Smith, would like for us to reference The Kinks in even the shortest description about their band. Naked Gods are a “hapless burly-pop prog-punk” quintet based out of the mountains of western North Carolina. A band for roughly four years now, and with various members having grown up writing and performing together, Naked Gods’ music derives itself from an eclectic slop of influences and styles. Most importantly, the songs take on their inspiration from both an intense awareness and exploration of community and place, friendship, and a shared desire to artistically experiment and redefine their own musical boundaries.
