Dos Taquitos Centro Update

New Raleigh reported earlier this week on the opening of the newest downtown restaurant Dos Taquitos Centro (whose website is a bit behind at the moment).  They are now open for dinner from 5:30-10:30pm Thursday-Saturday.  This being their first weekend open, expect lots of traffic, but don’t expect to be disappointed.  The wait will be worth it.  They received their liquor license yesterday and therefore should have a full bar tonight.

We stopped in last night with two friends for a quick appetizer and drinks to see how they were managing their first night in dinner operation.  It seemed to be going well and almost every table was packed the entire time we were in the restaurant.  With Frida Kahlo painted on our table and all the colorful and funky mexican nostalgia glued to the wall, it was sure to be a great evening experience.  We had both the Queso y Epazote and Quesadilla de Cordero which were amazingly tasty.  Both tasted very fresh, especially the tortilla chips and the lamb turnover.  The portions were a bit small but I said this about lunch as well and will stick to my statement that in this case, quality is much more important than quantity.  The men’s bathroom was as funky as the dining space, the most intriguing part being the 20 small pastel mirrors glued in an abstract, yet geometric arrangement to make a mirror above the sink.  Various phrases are painted, in pastel colors as well, on the walls in Spanish. After our appetizers, our check came in a very lovely jewelry box that could have easily been glued to the wall as decoration.  It added a nice touch to the dining experience.  I am no food critic, but am a culture vulture and it is evident that Dos Taq stands out as a great addition to downtown Raleigh.  It may disagree with some folks, but we need more options like this to drown out the lame alternatives of nightlife

Dos Taquitos Centro seems to keep their bar high and want to please their customers, which is evident by them looking at the comment cards and lowering the lunch prices.  Maybe this could happen for the dinner prices as well (wink, wink)!

After dinner it was into the evening streets to investigate all the street clutter for Capital City Bike Fest in downtown and Hearts and Daggers, Johnny Cash would be proud of these guys, at Tir Na Nog
