As mentioned yesterday, there was a convergence of two large crowds at the corner of Hargett and Wilmington Streets after the election was announced for Barack Obama. John over at Goodnight Raleigh has more great photos from the night, including the ones posted here.

This was not the first time this election season saw a bit of energy in downtown Raleigh. The Raleigh Times (led by Greg Hatem), which anchors this corner, was the catalyst throughout the 2008 election for events related to Obama and even Obama himself. The Raleigh Times currently has a new poster hanging in the window that says it all, Obama Times.

Below is a set of flashbacks from the 2008 election cycle that occurred at this intersection and around downtown Raleigh. Submit your memories from the 2008 Election in downtown Raleigh and the surrounding area.

Overheard at a crowded Raleigh Times Tuesday night:

Patron 1: “I’ll meet you at the other end of the bar.”

Patron 2: “I don’t think we can make it over there.”

    Patron 1: “Yes we can.”

That’s enough of this Barrack Hussein kiss _ _ _ news “New Raleigh”.  I used to enjoy this site, but your routine is getting very old.  This guy is already starting trouble, bringing is Clinton members, they created the DOT.COM bubble of the late 90’s and were responsible for “freeing Bin Laden” which triggered 9-11 (Clinton admin. is responsible for 9-11, if you do not believe that, your an idiot - now you bring in the same pathetic people who could not run the country under Clinton - Hussein cannot think for himself)

Yep. The Clinton era. Peace, prosperity, sounds terrible. Oh and that “Hussein” thing lost its sting before it even got started. AC, back to the kids’ table, the grownups are talking.

    Yo, AC
About this 9-11 thing, there are a towering heap of problems with the official story, one of which is that of all the entities that should be interested in this Bin Laden figure, the FBI is not one of them. It is worth noting that the FBI doesn’t list him on their wanted poster.

Rex Tomb, the FBI’s Chief of Investigative Publicity, was reported saying, “The reason why 9/11 is not mentioned on Usama Bin Laden’s Most Wanted page is because the FBI has no hard evidence connecting Bin Laden to 9/11.”

    Why you reckon that is?

    CAUTION

USAMA BIN LADEN IS WANTED IN CONNECTION WITH THE AUGUST 7, 1998, BOMBINGS OF THE UNITED STATES EMBASSIES IN DAR ES SALAAM, TANZANIA, AND NAIROBI, KENYA. THESE ATTACKS KILLED OVER 200 PEOPLE. IN ADDITION, BIN LADEN IS A SUSPECT IN OTHER TERRORIST ATTACKS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD.

thank you for the kind words! in five years of living in Raleigh, I’ve never seen such a spontaneous burst of happiness and joy amongst its citizens.

it was truly one of those moments that you tell your grandkids about… I’m very lucky I decided to bring my camera with me.
