Downtown Raleigh Free Wifi to be Down Thanksgiving Weekend

The City of Raleigh sent out the following notice about the availability of the Downtown Raleigh Free Wifi during Turkey Day weekend.

Due to maintenance on the electrical systems at the Raleigh Convention Center, the Downtown Raleigh FREE WiFi service will be unavailable beginning at noon on Friday, November 27, through noon on Sunday, November 29.  We apologize for the inconvenience.

Here is a map of where you can find Free Wifi in Downtown Raleigh.

Is this like Fayetteville Street in reverse, where they put in WiFi so they can take it down on weekends when a lot of people are going to be around?

No Brian.  The wifi will be up an running this weekend for the Christmas Parade downtown.  That’s when there will be a ton of people.  I doubt the same will hold true for Thanksgiving weekend when most of the area will be at malls shopping or sleeping off their turkey induced comas.

They chose to do this on Thanksgiving weekend precisely because no one will be around.

I’m sure all of those curbside websurfers will be furious!
