As Raleigh recovers from the closing of The Downtown Event Center, where will experimental bands play? It looks like Slim’s and Double Down have had shows recently that are on par to what the DEC has attempted to bring in. There were a few shows that the DEC had booked before it closed. One was A Rooster for the Masses, which has been canceled. The other was the massively influential drone rock band Earth. Canceling this show was not an option with integrity.
With metal influence as well as an almost Pink Floyd Animals droning sound, Earth has created music in a haze for almost two decades. They have spawned bands such as Sun O))) and Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine while lead singer Dylan Carlson has his own story about his relationship with Kurt Cobain. There is a lot of depth to Earth’s music and The Downtown Event Center would have been a perfect place for this show. Katmandu will do, as this show could be played in a back alley and it would have been worth it. This is only one of 12 shows for Earth on their recent US trek. Bring an open soul.
